Urban Ministry Center

The Urban Ministry center [http://www.urbanministrycenter.org] is located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The center was established in 1995. The center is there to provide love and compassion to those facing homelessness and poverty. The center is a non profit inter-faith based organization who welcomes all culture, traditions and personal beliefs. They try to assist people who are homeless or impoverished with basic life necessities. The center provides a soup kitchen that provides a free lunch seven days a week. The center also provides sanitary toiletry facilities, showers, washers and dryers and communication opportunities, such as mail, telephone and message boards.The center also provides information, referrals and assistance for housing, employment, health, help with obtaining personal identification, and other concerns; and to offer ways for volunteers from the community to engage in meaningful "hands on" work to help those in need. We also seek to offer ways to creatively engage all who come seeking help through our innovative outreach programs.

Community Works 945

The Urban Ministry Center [http://www.urbanministrycenter.org] also provides Community Works 945. Through Community Works 945, the homeless community can get involved in programs such as Art Works 945, Street Soccer 945, Music, yoga, and gardening. This allows the homeless to keep busy and build work and life skills.
