- Maxwelltown Thistle FC
Maxwelltown Thistle FC currently play in the Dumfries and District Amateur League. They re-joined the league in time for the 2007-08 season after a 43 year break from amatuer football. The club has a long history of involvement in youth football and can trace it's roots back to the 1930s. Originally formed as a Juvenile team (U18) they played in the local Dumfries Juvenile league. The club re-formed in 1946 and played as Maxwelltown Juveniles until the 1954-55 at which point the club joined the newly formed Dumfries and District Amateur League with a name change to Maxwelltown Thistle coming at the same time. After only 3 seasons the club dropped out of the Amatuer ranks and joined the newly formed Youth League.
From 1958 to 1961 the club played in the local youth league until a return to the Amateur ranks for one season in 1961/62. Returning to the youth ranks for the 1962-63 season the club continued to field a team in one or more of the age groups in youth football up until midway through the 2006-07 season at which point the team withdrew from youth football due to a lack of committee and the failing health of the mainstay of the club Billy Cross.
The Amateur team had a reasonably successful time during the 2007-08 season finishing as runners-up in the league, taking their title challenge to the last game of the season and winning two cups from four cup final appearances.
