Donnie Corker

Donnie Corker

Donnie Corker, better known as Dirtwoman, (born December 7, 1951) is a transvestite living in Richmond, Virginia known for involvement in Richmond arts, music, and food banks.

Reared in Oregon Hill, Corker literally made his name in politics, becoming legendary for crashing the gates — and getting arrested — at the gubernatorial inauguration of Richmond Mayor L. Douglas Wilder. Oh, and there was a little incident where he left that “deposit” in the back seat of a Richmond Police car.[1]

Business

Dirtwoman is known for performing at an annual food bank fund raiser known as Ham-a-Ganza in Richmond, where he typically appears as an inappropriately dressed Mrs. Claus. Additionally, Donnie Corker sells Dirt-grams around the time of the holidays, which are holiday messages personally delivered by Dirtwoman.

Corker, by far the city’s most notorious transvestite, is betting that nothing will say “I’ve had too much eggnog” like opening the front door to find 400 pounds of muumuu-clad Corker bearing flowers, chocolates or official court documents. “I’ll do whatever you want me to do,” Corker says. “If you want me to go somewhere nekkid, I will. I’ll dress in a three-piece bathing suit if you want.”[2]

Mayoral Candidacy

In May 2008, Dirtwoman announced his/her intentions to run for the office of Mayor in Richmond. Dirtwoman was profiled by Richmond.com in May 2008, describing his reasons for running.[3][4]

Dirtwoman is widely expected to receive substantial free media and buzz through local radio, blog posts, and newspaper coverage.[5]

Dirtwoman was taken out of the race for an unknown reason

Felony Conviction and Voting Rights

Dirtwoman has a previous felony conviction involving having relations with an elderly man in a park.[6] Related to that conviction, he lost the right to vote, typical in felony convictions. After Tim Kaine took office as governor, Dirtwoman petitioned Governor Kaine for clemency and the restoration of his right to vote, which was granted after the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth found that he had no repeat offenses or DUI convictions in the time since his felony conviction.

Elliot in the Morning

Dirtwoman and his family (mother and sister) have been frequent callers on the Elliot in the Morning show for several years. He has appeared as a special guest at station events. He often talks about his love life, political views, and his numerous health issues. The show aired a tribute to his mother, Mae Corker, when she passed away in 2005.
