Sam-Son Farm is a
thoroughbred horse racing stable inMilton, Ontario ,Canada . Founded in the 60’s byErnie Samuel , it originally was home to equestrian horses. However, in 1971 it became home to its firstthoroughbred race horse .Sam-Son Farm is a four-time winner of the
Queen's Plate , Canada's most important horse race. In 1991, the stable won theEclipse Award for Outstanding Owner after its horses established a new world record for race earnings. Under trainersJim Day , and thenMark Frostad who took over in 1995, Sam-Son Farm has won eightSovereign Award s for outstanding owner and seven for outstanding breeder.Some of their great thoroughbred racehorses include:
*Chief Bearhart - won the 1997Breeders' Cup Turf and was named theEclipse Award for Outstanding Male Turf Horse and a two-time Canadian Horse of the Year;
*Dance Smartly - undefeated in the 1991 racing season, en route to winning theBreeders' Cup Distaff , she became the onlyfilly to ever win the Canadian Triple Crown. She won theEclipse Award for Outstanding Three-Year-Old Filly inNorth America and in 2003 was inducted into theNational Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame ;
*Dancethruthedawn - won the 2001 Queens' Plate and the Grade 1Go For Wand Handicap atSaratoga Race Course
*Regal Classic – Canadian Champion Two-Year-Old Colt
*Sky Classic - Canadian Champion Two-Year-Old Colt (1989), Canadian Champion Male Turf Horse] , Canadian Champion Older Male Horse (1991), and theEclipse Award in the United States for American Champion Male Turf Horse (1992)Following the death of her father in 2000, operations of the farm were taken over by Tammy Samuel-Balaz.
