* MalatawanPalanas is a bi-dialect town, cebuano in the remote barangays and masbateño along provincial road. Several nice beach resorts are found and a town-famous Bodong falls rear Brgy. Nabangig. Poblacion is quite; almost exclusive residential area with few variety (sari-sari) stores in every streets.
The town is slowly recognized for its unique "pasayaw sa leon" or lion dance. It is completely different from chinese dragon dance as it has a hero, a giant couple and a lion. The script, less has changed since, is a battle ofwhich is won by the hero thus saving the land from terror.
Another festival unique is the "pasayaw sa puso" wherein steamed rice wrapped in a diamond-shaped young coconut leaves are hanged in leafless bamboo stems and town-paraded.
