Herman Perry (
May 16 ,1922 -March 15 ,1945 ) was an American soldier and murderer, and a fugitive in exotic circumstances.He was born in
Monroe, North Carolina . As a soldier in the U.S. Army, 849th Engineer Battalion, he served in theChina Burma India Theater of World War II . After killing Lieutenant Harold Cady on March 3, 1944, he fled into the wilderness, and lived out an adventure of jungle survival, evasion, adaptation to the lifestyle of theNaga people of northeastern India and northernBurma , and two captures by the Army, before his eventual execution byhanging .His story was recounted in 2008 as by
