Herman Perry

Herman Perry

Herman Perry (May 16, 1922 - March 15, 1945) was an American soldier and murderer, and a fugitive in exotic circumstances.

He was born in Monroe, North Carolina. As a soldier in the U.S. Army, 849th Engineer Battalion, he served in the China Burma India Theater of World War II. After killing Lieutenant Harold Cady on March 3, 1944, he fled into the wilderness, and lived out an adventure of jungle survival, evasion, adaptation to the lifestyle of the Naga people of northeastern India and northern Burma, and two captures by the Army, before his eventual execution by hanging.

His story was recounted in 2008 as by Brendan I. Koerner; George Pelecanos called it [ [http://www.marcovigevani.com/upload/london_2008/PFD_London_2008_Rights_List.pdf PFD New York] (Peters, Fraser and Dunlop), "London 2008" [list of represented books] ] "A fascinating, untold story of the Second World War, an incendiary social document, and a thrilling, campfire tale adventure."
