- Jesse de Silva
Jesse de Silva is a fictional character in
The Mediator series byMeg Cabot . He is a 150 year old ghost who lives inSuze Simon 'sCarmel, California home.Biography
Hector (Jesse) de Silva was born to a wealthy pair of Spanish ranchers in California in the early 19th century. He was the only male child and had many sisters. He secretly wished to become a doctor but couldn't because of his responsibilities to the ranch.
In the year 1850, Jesse was engaged to marry his cousin,
Maria de Silva , but discovered that she was cavorting with a slave trader namedFelix Diego behind his back. While on his way to call off the wedding and return Maria's letters to her, he stayed at aboardinghouse and was murdered by Diego in his sleep.Jesse's spirit still haunts the room in which he was killed when
Susannah Simon moves in, about 150 years later. Despite a rocky start the two become friends and eventually develop romantic feeling for each other.Personality
Jesse can most often be seen wearing a contemplative frown but he smiles easily and is generally good humored. He enjoys teasing Susannah but becomes forceful and stubbornly protective when her safety is in question. He displays a great interest in history and human nature and can often be found reading a pilfered textbook on the window seat of the room he and Susannah share.
Physical Appearance
Jesse has very tanned skin, black eyes, long eyelashes, and short, thick black hair. He has, as Suze says, a "nice," "good," face, but he is not "pretty": he looks dangerous. A thin raised scar cuts through the middle of one of his eyebrows, which are thick and black and often raised in question or jest. He has surprisingly even, white teeth for someone who lived in a time before fluoride. His hands are large and brown and he stands at a height somewhere around six feet. As a member of the dead Jesse has an overall
spectral glow but he doesn't look a day over 20, the age at which he died. Jesse is at least partially from Spanish decent. As a ghost, Jesse wears the same clothes everyday: a white shirt with laces that opens widely at the throat, exposing much of hischest and occasionally hisabdominals ; black toreador pants; and boots.External links
