- Sershul
Sershul is one of the eighteen counties in the Kandze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in the north westernmost tip of Sichuan Province.
It has an area of over 25’000 square kilometres and is predominantly nomadic grassland.
The population is around 68’000, 96% of whom are ethnic Tibetan.
Shiqu County has an area of 25’100 km2 and a mean elevation of 4’200 meters; grassland covers an area of 21’000 km2, of which 19’000 km2 can be used as grazing pasture. By the end of 1997, there was an estimated livestock population of 581’470, mainly yaks, sheep, goats, horses, and a small number of pigs. The human population of Shiqu County was approximately 63’400 and 96.8% were ethnic Tibetans; there were 49’100 herdsmen, representing 77.6% of the population.
