The Bugbear was a short-lived indie pop/punk band formed by Heavenly drummer Mathew Fletcher.

They released two EPs [http://www.twee.net/bands/heavenly/related.html TweeNet] ] and a full-length studio album, "Plan for the Assassination of The Bugbear". [ [http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:0jfpxq8gldte~T2 allmusic] ] In contrast to Heavenly and his former band Talulah Gosh, their sound was closer to the punk rock approach favoured by Fletcher.Fact|date=June 2008

The first EP, "Sea Monkeys", was issued by Swing Set Records on 7" vinyl, and contained "Sea Monkeys", "Oh Honey", "Geiner Rules" and "So I'm Silly". The second was named "Four Twee Songs" and was released by Vinyl Japan in November 1993 on 12" vinyl and CD. It comprised "For Your Sake", "Half Japanese", "The This Many Boyfriends Club" and "Let Me Dream".

Heavenly member Peter Momtchiloff contributed to some songs on the album, released by Vinyl Japan in September 1995. It also included a cover version of "Panik" by Bratmobile.

These were the only solo recordings released by Fletcher. Some home recordings were also issued on limited edition cassettes.
