He worked at theLamont-Doherty Earth Observatory inPearl River, New York , after teaching briefly atWilliams College inWilliamstown, Massachusetts and theUniversity of California, Davis . Bond theorized that variations in solar activity — the appearance of sunspots and changes in the emission of solar radiation — might be driving 1,500-year-cycles of cold events in Northern Hemisphere climate — the so-calledBond event s.Bond received his Bachelor of Science degree at
