Founder of Top ChannelYears active 1993-2008 Spouse Vjollca Hoxha Dritan Hoxha, who was born in Kukes, Albania, on 20 September 1968, will be remembered maybe as the most prominent character of the Albanian media of the post-communist era.
By setting standards of previously unthinkable heights, within a very short period of time, Dritan Hoxha radically changed the Albanian media.
The business story of Dritan Hoxha was born in 1993, with the establishment of Lori Caffe trademark, which is by now well-known nationwide. The success of his first business helped him materialize the passion for the media. Top Albania Radio was founded by him on 14 February 1998 and was the first medium that revealed his innovative ideas. Therefore pretty soon, owing to the passion and dedication of Dritan Hoxha, the audience of this radio grew larger than audiences of other radios and turned into the first most-listened-to radio station in Albania. In fact, Top Albania Radio had become a trend, a fashion sought after by all Albanians. Because of it, the Albania of the transition era met Western standards. Yes But this was only the beginning as Dritan Hoxha wanted to roll out these standards in other fields as well, most importantly: Television.
Top Channel was born on 20 December 2001. In fact, in the mind of Dritan Hoxha it was born long ago, but on the 20th of December 2001 it became tangible for all the Albanians. It was a huge and unprecedented investment in Albania as regards its human and technological resources, which thanks to the everyday work and incessant passion of its creator, turned within few weeks into one of the most watched TV channels and later on based on the number of viewers, Top Channel became the main TV channel nationwide.
Top Channel changed completely the prospect of TV channels on Albania. The TV Channel established by Dritan Hoxha tried to change the status quo of the still primitive media in Albania and to provide to people and to all Albanians a service of a higher quality.
Owing to the new standards that Top Channel introduced into the market, it became one of the most loved television screens for Albanians, be it for the speed of information or for its quality. The programmes and the shows broadcast by Top Channel were of equal standing as those of well-known TV channels in the developed countries of Europe.
Such passion and human effort was backed by a technological investment which enabled the reaching out of a maximum quality signal.
The success of Top Channel helped Dritan Hoxha make another dream come true; the creation of a digital broadcasting platform. This is how Digitalb was born. Albania was officially listed as one of the few countries worldwide making use of digital broadcasting on 14 July 2004.
An idea which would be considered as impossible some time ago would now become reality. In a time when the scarcity of services that were offered to the Albanians, could not be fully supported by Top Channel alone, Digitalb turned into a real success. Only few months later, Dritan Hoxha decided to make it tangible for all the Albanians, including those who live abroad. Digitalb turned into a digital satellite platform; it made ‘home’ reach out to the dwelling of every Albanian emigrant scattered throughout Europe.
Presently, Digitalb counts thousands of subscribers in Albania and abroad. It launched the DVBH technology on 20 December 2006, which brought to the Albanians the miracle of TV on a mobile phone and would make Albania one of the first countries in the world which would apply this technology and offer this service.
The year 2007 would mark another novelty, HD (High Definition) broadcasting. Through this, Digitalb turned into a leader platform in the European markets by broadcasting in six HD channels and by placing Albania on the top of the list in this field, and maybe for the first time, on the top of the list of achievements and not of negative phenomena.
