Kassel . Built on farmland 908ftASL lying NNE of the Hoher Dörnberg, theairport was opened on 11 July 1970. Theairport has a single asphaltrunway , 04/22 (040°/220°), which is approximately 4900ft long and 100ft wide. There is a parallel grass strip north of the main runway, which is approximately 2900ft long and 100ft wide. It has been operated as apublic-private partnership since 1991.Future development
There are current plans to enlarge the airport to a full regional airport, with a projected increase in the runway length to approximately 8200ft and width to approximately 150ft to accommodate commercial chartered and scheduled carriers.

The main runway is currently too short for most commercial (charter and scheduled) jet-powered and the larger turboprop aircraft, and most of the 35,000 annual aircraft movements are
