- Jimmy Nottingham
Jimmy Nottingham (December 15, 1925 - November 16, 1978) was an American
jazz trumpeter.Nottingham's first professional job was with
Cecil Payne in 1943. He served in the Navy in 1944-45, where he played inWillie Smith 's band. Following this he worked withLionel Hampton (1945-47),Charlie Barnet ,Lucky Millinder ,Count Basie (1948-50), andHerbie Fields . He playedLatin jazz from 1951-53, then was hired byCBS as a staff musician in 1954. He worked for CBS for more than 20 years, and played jazz music in his spare time, withBudd Johnson (1962),Dizzy Gillespie ,Oliver Nelson ,Benny Goodman ,Thad Jones /Mel Lewis (1966-70), andClark Terry (1974-75). His only recordings as a leader were four songs forSeeco Records in 1957.References
