Entertainment Industry Foundation

The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), based in Los Angeles, is a US 501(c)(3) non-profit and the leading charitable organization of the entertainment industry. EIF funds more than 300 charitable organizations annually, both in the LA area and throughout the United States.

History

EIF was created in 1942 by Samuel Goldwyn, Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, and the Warner brothers. Originally known as the Permanent Charities Committee, EIF is based on the principle that those in the entertainment industry are in a unique position to publicize and contribute to charitable organizations.

Retrieved on 29 May 2008.] , the organization offered the first grants directed to wartime agencies like the United States Organizations and American Red Cross, and provided funding and to help eradicate childhood polio.

Fundraising

EIF raises funds through workplace giving, national initiatives and special fund-raising events.

Leadership

EIF's current Campaign Chair is Pierce Brosnan, an Irish actor most known for his starring roles in four James Bond movies. Previous chairs include Joan Crawford, Gene Kelly, Jimmy Stewart, Michael J. Fox, Gene Hackman, Whoopi Goldberg, Quincy Jones, and Clint Eastwood.

Recent Work

Most recently, EIF is spearheading cancer fund-raising initiative Stand Up To Cancer. Other recent work includes a PSA on quitting smoking featuring Eugene Levy and lobbying on Capitol Hill for the establishment of a federal Diabetes Coordinator.
