Hugo Adam Bedau (born 23 September 1926) is the Austin B. Fletcher
Professor ofPhilosophy ,Emeritus , atTufts University , and is best known for his work oncapital punishment .Bedau gained his
PhD fromHarvard University in 1961 and subsequently taught at atDartmouth College ,Princeton University andReed College before joining Tufts in 1966. He retired in 1999.
