Parashah (disambiguation)

The Hebrew word "parashah" (plural: "parashot" or "parashiyyot") narrowly means "section", "portion", or "event". It usually refers to one of the following:

#In rabbinic literature, halakhah and biblical studies, "parashah" properly refers to a section in the masoretic text of the Hebrew Bible, somewhat resembling a modern paragraph.
#In popular parlance, "parashah" is usually used as a shortened form of the term "parashat ha-shavua", the Weekly Torah portion read in the synagogue. (Some Ashkenazim traditionally use the word "Sidra" or "Sedra" with the same meaning rather than "parashah", but "parashah" is by far the more popular term and the only one used in modern spoken Hebrew.)
#A "parashah" can also mean one of the seven sub-divisions of the Weekly Torah portion, to which an individual is called up in the reading of the Torah.
