cities =Stoneman Lake is a small
lake located in northernArizona , about convert|30|mi|abbr=on south of the city of Flagstaff. Like the nearbyMormon Lake , it is one of the few natural lakes in Arizona.Stoneman Lake is small and shallow, with an average surface area of less than convert|100|acre|abbr=on and depth of less than convert|10|ft|abbr=on. As such, it is subject to considerable fluctuations due to local rainfall and snowmelt conditions, and may even dry up completely.cite web|url=http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/recreation/red_rock/stoneman-boat.shtml|title=Stoneman Lake|accessdate=2008-05-27|publisher=
United States Forest Service ] Due to the lake intermittently drying up, the availability offish in the lake is unreliable. Nevertheless, in wet yearsnorthern pike andyellow perch are stocked here, and the lake is the location of the state record yellow perch caught in 1984. [cite web|url=http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/state_records.shtml|title=Arizona State Fish Records|accessdate=2008-05-27|publisher=Arizona Game and Fish Department ] Recreational activities are generally limited to boating, wildlife viewing and camping.Of particular interest to geologists and of some minor debate is the origin of the lake. The lake fills a nearly circular basin in a region with some historical volcanic activity, leading to the possibility that the lake is either a
crater lake or a filled insinkhole . Evidence exists to support both conclusions.Boating Facility Features
