John Cabot University is a private American liberal arts university located in Rome, Italy. Founded in 1972, it was named after the Italian explorer Giovanni Caboto.

Located in the heart of the Eternal City, in the beautiful compound of the Italian National Academy of Sciences, John Cabot is a unique place. It combines the best qualities of American liberal arts education, with the history and rich cultural heritage of Rome, a city that is at the same time one of the cradles of western civilization and a vibrant center of international life.

The University is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, licensed by the Department of Education of the State of Delaware, and authorized by the Italian Ministry of Education to operate as an American four-year university in Italy.

In addition to preparing degree-seeking students for graduate programs and demanding international careers, JCU also offers visiting students an exceptional study abroad experience in Rome.

Location

John Cabot University is located in the neighborhood of Trastevere – the "Transtiber" of the ancient Romans. The University recently inaugurated the new Tiber Campus, just a five-minute walk from the Guarini Campus on Via della Lungara, which continues to serve JCU. The new building overlooks the bustling Tiber River on the outside and the quiet, green courtyards of Trastevere on the inside. Campus facilities are fully equipped with WIFI and modern computer labs, in addition to offering wonderful views and tranquil corners for study and interaction. The Frohring Library is one of the best English-language libraries in the Eternal City and features extensive online resources and databases.

Degrees

John Cabot University confers the Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in Art History, Business Administration, Economics and Finance, English Literature, Humanistic Studies, International Affairs, Italian Studies, Communications, Marketing, History, Classical Studies and Political Science. There is also a two-year program leading to the Associate of Arts degree. In addition, students may choose to participate in the University of Wales Validation Program in Business Administration, Political Science and International Affairs. Students graduating in this program will receive both a John Cabot degree and a British Honours degree from the University of Wales.

Faculty

Over 100 full and part-time professors with multicultural and multilingual backgrounds teach at JCU. Faculty members hold advanced degrees from major universities throughout the world and over three-quarters hold terminal degrees in their fields of expertise. Professional experience combines with solid academic credentials to guarantee the highest level of teaching excellence at John Cabot University.

With a student: faculty ratio of 15: 1, JCU provides a personal classroom experience to students from Italy, the United States, and over 40 other countries. The University provides a wide range of student services and activities in support of the academic program and encourages a campus environment sensitive to the diverse ethnic and cultural origins of members of the JCU community. Students may choose from a variety of activities such as student government, student newspaper, Model UN, theater, orchestra, jazz, film, soccer, the Outdoor Education Program and many more.

Accreditation and Licensing

John Cabot University is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

The University is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in the State of Delaware and is licensed to award its degrees by the Delaware Department of Education. It is authorized by the Italian Ministry of Education to operate as a four-year American liberal arts college in Italy.

In addition to its full time degree-seeking students the University also hosts a variety of study-abroad students from select colleges across the United States including: Connecticut College, Marquette University, Hiram College, University of Denver, Tulane University, Emory University, Michigan State University, Villanova University, American University, University of Portland, St. Mary's University, and the University of Notre Dame.
