UK Commission for Employment and Skills

UK Commission for Employment and Skills

The UK Commission for Employment and Skills is a Non-Departmental Public Body that provides advice to the British Government and Devolved Administrations on skills and employment policy.

Created in April 2008, the employer-led Commission supersedes the former Sector Skills Development Agency, the National Employment Panel and, in England, the Skills Alliance, following the recommendations of the 2006 Leitch Review [http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/media/6/4/leitch_finalreport051206.pdf Leitch Review of Skills: Prosperity for all in the global economy - world class skills - Final Report] , HM Treasury, December 2006] , in the expectation that it would "‘depoliticise’ the skills agenda by securing a broad political and stakeholder consensus for the UK’s world-class ambitions for 2020 and beyond."

The commission is responsible for the licensing process for the 25 Sector Skills Councils.
