Warren High School

Warren High School was the first public high school in the city of Warren, Michigan. It was located on Arden Road just west of Mound Road.

History

In 1924, William E. Murthum School was build on the corner of Seventh Avenue and Arden. It was the first brick school in the city of Warren. It housed K-12. In 1931, the enrollment became too big so on land right next to Murthum was built the high school which opened in the fall of 1931. Murthum then became an elementary (K-6) and Warren was 7-12. This arrangment lasted until 1958 when John C. Fuhrmann Junior High (7-9) opened.

Murthum remained open until it closed at the end of the 1977-78 school year. The victory wing (1-3) was torn down a few years after closing. The kindergarten and 4-6 grade wing were torn down in 1988. The last remaining part, library, upstairs and gym were demolished in 1992. An inline skating rink now sits on the site.

Fuhrmann was finally closed at the end of the 2003-04 school year and still stands on 14 Mile, halfway between Mound and Ryan.

Warren High School closed at the end of 1991-92 school year.
