Rt. Rev. Hon. Arthur Temple Lyttelton (
7 January 1852 -19 February 1903 ) was the first Master of the newly establishedSelwyn College, Cambridge [ [http://www.sel.cam.ac.uk/college/Selwyn-1882-1973.pdf Selwyn College1882 - 1973: A Brief History] ] and the thirdAnglican Suffragan Bishop of Southampton.
Lyttelton was born into a noble family [ [http://www.thepeerage.com/p1190.htm Details from "thepeerage.com"] ] and was educated at Eton andTrinity College, Cambridge [“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X] .He was
ordained priest in 1877 and began his career with a Curacy at St Mary's Reading. There then followed a short spell as aTutor atKeble College, Oxford before in 1882 he was appointed the first Master of Selwyn College, Cambridge ["The Correspondence of Alfred Marshall, Economist" Whitaker, J.K: Royal Economic Society (Great Britain), Cambridge University Press, 1996 ISBN 0521558867] , a position he held until 1893.In 1893 he became
Vicar ofEccles and in 1898 ascended to theEpiscopate as the Suffragan Bishop of Southampton.He was the Provost at St. Nicholas College (now
Lancing College ).He died at his home in
