George Carnac Fisher was
Bishop of Southampton from 1896 to 1898 and Ipswich from 1899 [The Times , Monday, May 15, 1899; pg. 11; Issue 35829; col E "New Bishop Suffragan of Ipswich" ] to 1906. Born in 1844 [“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X] he was educated atHarrow School andBrasenose College, Oxford . in 1874 he was appointedVicar ofForest Row in 1874, transferring to St George, Barrow in Furness [ [http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/BarrowinFurness/StGeorge.shtml Picture of church] ] in 1879 andCroydon ten years later. Appointed to Southampton to succeed Awdry, he was later translated to Ipswich, a post he held until ill health [The Times , Monday, Jan 29, 1906; pg. 6; Issue 37929; col C "Resignation of Bishop of Ipswich. "] necessitated his resignation in January 1906. He died at his home inFleggburgh on9 April 1921 .Notes
