January 22 ,1914 ,Usti nad Labem -October 14 ,1987 ,Vienna ) was an Austrian operaticsoprano of Czech birth, particularly associated withsoubrette roles.After vocal studies in
Prague , she made her stage debut inHanover as Blonchen in "The Abduction from the Seraglio ", in 1939. She first appeared at theVienna State Opera in 1941, as Annchen in "Der Freischutz ", and remained with this theatre some 25 years, establishing herself inMozart soubrette roles (Susanna, Zerlina, Despina).She made guest appearances at the festivals of Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence, Glyndebourne,
La Scala in Milan, theRoyal Opera House in London, theLiceo in Barcelona, theSan Carlo in Naples, theMunich State Opera , etc.She took part in the creation of
Gottfried von Einem 's "Der Besuch der alten Dame " at the Vienna State Opera in 1971. She retired from the stage in 1979, and began teaching at theVienna Music Academy and at the Sommerakademie in Salzburg.A singer with a delightful voice and charming stage personality.
