Deon Hampton

Deon Hampton (born October 9, 1980), a two-time award-winning reporter, is a news reporter at the "Tulsa World" newspaper in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also the president of the Tulsa Association of Black Journalists.

His former reporting jobs included a one-year stint at the "Fort Collins Coloradoan" newspaper and the "Denver Weekly News".

In March 2008, Hampton was apart of a four-member team who were the sweepstakes winners in the annual AP/Oklahoma News Executives' Carl Rogan awards competition in the Division A category.

The award is the highest reporting award in Oklahoma. The team also won first place in general news reporting.

The team won the awards for their coverage of Tulsa's ice storm in December 2007.

Hampton, who was in his first year of reporting at the "World", broke the ice storm story, which left the majority of the city without power and electricity.

While in Tulsa, Hampton became a member of the KDM connection, a collective of Tulsa reporters consisting Hampton, Keidron Dotson (KJRH 2) and Marcus Washington (Fox 23).

Non-official members were Latoya Silmon and Ashli Sims (KOTV 6), Mia Fleming (Fox 23), Kim Jackson (KTUL 8), Shayrrn Harvey (KJRH 2), Philip Winfrey and Russell LaCour (Tulsa World).

Hampton is a native of Illinois and was raised in Denver, Colorado. He attended Langston University before graduating in 2004.
