Jonathan Tucker (scientist)

Dr Jonathan Tucker (born 1953) is a herpetologist with a focus on the snakes and turtles in the southern United States. He was known for his field studies and interactions with local species. Some of his most common field work was observing and tagging threatened species of wildlife to track their movement, development, and mating habits. Some of his more notable work was done with his discovery of a subspecies of diamondback terrapin, Malaclemys terrapin maximus, commonly known as the North Atlantic Diamondback Terrapin.Fact|date=July 2008

Life

Jonathan Tucker was born in rural Virginia in 1953 to Dodge and Regina Tucker. He graduated from high school at the age of 14 and looked for a place to pursue his interests. At the age of 19, during an expedition in Florida, he lost his left hand to an alligator.Fact|date=July 2008

Work

Dr. Tucker did a majority of his fieldwork in the southern states of the United States, ranging from Arizona to Maryland.Fact|date=July 2008
