Sydney Lane Gardner (
9 June 1884 –23 June 1965 ) was anAustralia n politician. Born inAberdeen, New South Wales , he was educated at Scone Grammar School and then theUniversity of Sydney . He became a teacher and then an accountant in Singleton, and a farmer and grazier. In 1922, he was elected to theAustralian House of Representatives as the Nationalist member for Robertson, defeating William Fleming. In 1931, the Nationalist Party became theUnited Australia Party (UAP), which Gardner joined. He held Robertson until 1940, when he was defeated by rival UAP candidateEric Spooner . He returned to farming, settling at Rose Vale.
