Art Satherly (October 19, 1889,
Bristol, England - February 10, 1986 ,Fountain Valley, California ) was arecord producer andA&R man, who was born inEngland but spent most of his career in theUnited States .Satherly moved to
Wisconsin in the 1910s, and took a job in the 1920s as a promoter forParamount Records , selling discs byMa Rainey andBlind Lemon Jefferson . He took a job withColumbia Records in 1930 and subsequently became one of the most successfulcountry music promoters in the genre's early history. Among those he produced wereGene Autry ,Bob Wills ,Hank Penny ,Lefty Frizzell ,Carl Smith ,Marty Robbins , andRoy Acuff .He left Columbia in 1952 and went into semi-retirement, occasionally returning to production work.
