Ernest (or Ernst) Friedrich Gilg (born January 12, 1867, in
Baden-Württemberg ,Germany , and died October 11, 1933, inBerlin ) was a Germanbotanist .Life
Gilg was curator of the Botanical Museum in Berlin. In 1921, Gilg, and fellow botanist
Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler , co-authored and published two books onbotany - "Syllabus der Pflanzenfamilien" and "Das Pflanzenreich"." ThePoaceae grass "Gilgiochoa" wasposthumously named after him.Work

* "Grundzüge der Botanik für Pharmazeuten", published 1921
* "Lehrbuch der Pharmakognosie", published 1922Over the course of his life, Gilg identified and named 42 species, subspecies, and sub-families of various grasses.
