Majeed Karimi

Majeed Karimi ( _ar. ماجد كريمي) is a member of Al Wefaq Islamic Action, the main opposition to the Bahrainian government.

One of two Al Wefaq councillors elected in Muharraq in 2002 to a council dominated by Sunni Islamists, Mr Karimi came to prominence when he spearheaded a campaign to ban lingerie mannequins from underwear shop windows, citing their presence as a reason for growing rates of divorce and family break up. I have received various complaints from people who say they feel aroused by these mannequins."

Mr Karimi has expressed frustration at the failure of his fellow councillors to agree to the ban, inferring that jealousy were behind their objections. While Mr Karimi might not have been successful in Muharraq, his vocal advocacy of the issue has encouraged councillors elsewhere in the Kingdom to come out for a comprehensive ban.
