Lolla attended
St. Rose High School inBelmar, New Jersey where he was a 1980 High School All American. Then then attendedDuke University , playing on the men’s soccer team from 1980 to 1983. He graduated with abachelors degree in biology in 1983. Following college, he spent the 1984 season with theCharlotte Gold in theUnited Soccer League . That fall, he signed with theCanton Invaders of the National Professional Soccer League, spending four seasons with the team. In the spring of 1988, he moved to theNew Jersey Eagles of theAmerican Soccer League . In 1990, he played for thePenn-Jersey Spirit in theAmerican Professional Soccer League . Lolla began coaching during his playing career when he served as an assistant at
Monmouth College in 1984. In 1985, he spent time as an assistant coach with his alma mater, Duke, then served as the head coach at Lake High School inUniontown, Ohio in 1987. He returned as an assistant coach with Duke in 1988 and 1989. In 1993, he became the head coach ofBelmont Abbey College anNCAA Division II soccer team. In his three seasons as head coach, he compiled a 49-16-3 record. This led to a move to theUniversity of Akron where he served as head coach for thirteen seasons. He finished his tenure in Akron with a 160-68-25 record, eightMid American Conference titles and five appearances in the NCAA tournament. He won MAC Coach of the Year three times. In 2005, he signed a six year contract with Akron. On December 16, 2005,Louisville University announced it had hired Lolla as the school’s new head coach. In his second season at Louisville, the Cardinals finished 11-7-4 with an appearance in the NCAA Tournament's second round, where they lost to eventual National runner upOhio State .External links
