Jan Lundgren (born
22 March 1966 inKristianstad ), raised inRonneby , is a Swedish jazz musician (piano ), known for his solo work, and his own jazz trio.Lundgren was formerly in the group "St. Thomas" before studying music in Malmø (1986-1991), at the same time as he played in an established jazz orchestra with
Arne Domnérus ,Putte Wickman ("En sommarkonsert", 2004) andBernt Rosengren and most recently withGeorg Riedel ("Lockrop", Gemini, 2006). His first releases were "Conclusion" (FLC, 1994) and "Bird of Passage" (FLC, 1995), following up with a collaboration with thePeter Asplund quartet ("California Collection", 1997).In 1995 he set up his own trio with
Mattias Svensson /Matthias Hjort on bass andMorten Lund /Rasmus Kihlberg on drums, which has released records on Sittel ("Swedish standards" 1997; "Something to live for" 1999; "For Listeners only" 2001; "Swedish landscapes" 2003; "Plays the music ofJules Styne " 2004). Lundgren and his trio won theGyllene Skivan for "Swedish Standards" 1997.The trio took part in an international expo of Swedish Jazz at the
Carnegie Hall in 2000.He released a record with
Chuck Berghoefer andJoe LaBarbera ("Cookin' at the Jazz Bakery", 1996), and toured withLee Konitz on his Swedish tour of 2005.He was awarded Swedish jazz musician of the year in (
Sveriges Radio 's awards).
