Biography

André Carthen, was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Gwendolyn and Edward Carthen. Best known as an amateur chef, having studied under Jean Francois Meteigner, Suki, Gary Clausen, and Camine Corbo. He owes much of his success to the support of many famous friends, including Kathy Ireland, who has featured Carthen on all of her platinum-selling fitness videos. He gained his interest in cooking as a small child, watching his mother Gwendolyn cook meals in her kitchen for him as well as the many foster children she took in over the years. As he grew and later toured the world, he became even more fascinated with cooking and decided to pursue it as a career. Of utmost importance to him is that his meals be not only tasty, but nutritious as well.

He and Kathy Ireland work side by side to bring culinary solutions to families. Together they developed the ACafé Brand for Kathy Ireland Worldwide. ACafé Brand products range from Rugs, Furniture, Top of Bed, Accessories, Lighting, Wall Art, Table Top, Jewelry and Candles which have received one of the brands many Good Housekeeping Seals of Approval.

Carthen has studied under the tutelage of culinary masters such as Jean Francois Meteigner, famous for his tenure at L'Orangerie, Chef Suki at The Beverly Hills Hotel, Chef Gary Clausen at the Bel Air Hotel for the exclusive Table One, he has shared the television stage with Master Chef Dean Fearing of The Mansion on Turtle Creek and Chef Christopher Strong, from The Cafe, The Lodge at Rancho Mirage California. Strong was the winner of the 4 Star 4 Diamond Award and continues to serves as director of hospitality for ACafé.

Chef André and Landscape Designer Nicholas Walker serve as Kathy Ireland Worldwide Ambassadors with appearances on television and radio. Co-hosted an afternoon on “Serves You Right” radio with Steve Valentino, and appeared with Kathy on the popular television program Soap Talk. Chef André has also appeared on Sunday Dinner, Access Hollywood, "Taste of Southwest" with Dean Fearing, Co- hosted The California Poultry Federation and Foster Farms sponsored National Chicken Cooking Contest, was invited to be a guest chef at the nation’s largest Father's Day event, Real Men Cook. He has also been a contributor to Amateur Chef Magazine, and Women’s Magazine-Santa Barbara.

On behalf of Kathy Ireland, Carthen planned Elizabeth Taylor’s 74th-birthday celebration at the Beverly Hills Hotel and worked with her children to help plan her 75th Diamond Jubilee at the Ritz Carlton / Lake Las Vegas.

Career

Carthen has a small number of television and movie acting appearances to his credit, including roles in "Beverly Hills 90210", "The Hughleys", "Even Stevens", "Twice Upon A Christmas", and "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge" playing opposite Halle Berry as the famous crooner/actor Harry Belafonte.

Personal life

Carthen has a daughter named Trinity.
