Little Opera Company

Little Opera Company

The Little Opera Company (LOC) is a semi-professional chamber opera company based in London.

About the Little Opera Company

The LOC was created with the aim of bringing opera to new audiences, particularly young people, and to challenge traditional stereotypes of opera and opera singers. It offers performance opportunities to young singers, particularly those who have just finished music college, and who often struggle to find work with established opera companies.

It also aims to foster young talent in other professions involved in opera, by giving experience to aspiring directors, designers, conductors and instrumentalists. The LOC supports new music and has commissioned a new one-act opera by composer Christopher Meux.

As well as fully staged productions, the LOC undertakes a programme of smaller events including chamber concerts and private functions.

Brief history

The Little Opera Company was founded in 2007 by Felicity Brown and Celena Bridge, two recent graduates of the Royal Academy of Music, who both teach singing at Queen's College, London, an independent girls' school on Harley Street.

With the support of the school, the first full-scale production took place in May 2008: 'Opera Tableaux', a selection of scenes from The Turn of the Screw (Benjamin Britten), The Mikado (Gilbert and Sullivan) and Die Fledermaus (Johann Strauss).
