Seona Reid

Seona Reid CBE BA(Hons) Hon DLitt Hon DArt FRSA is Director of the Glasgow School of Art, in Scotland and former Director of the Scottish Arts Council.

Career

She was Director of the Scottish Arts council for 9 years, and became the Art School's Director in September 1999 [http://scotlandonsunday.scotsman.com/ViewArticle.aspx?articleid=2744511 Glasgow school in a class of its own - Scotland on Sunday ] ] . She has undertaken many roles within the Arts World during her career. In August 2007 she was appointed to the Scottish Broadcasting Commission established by the Scottish National Party government.

Glasgow School of Art

Reid's directorship at the Art School has been driving the school's Estates renewal programme, in particular the [http://www.gsa.ac.uk/gsa.cfm?pid=1910 Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project] , and the associated campus downsizing. She has been successful in securing funding from a variety of sources to renovate and preserve Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Glasgow School of Art building.

Honours

Seona has received many honours during her life [http://www.scottishbroadcastingcommission.gov.uk/about/Membership] . She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Arts from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen in 1995, became an honorary professor of the University of Glasgow in 1999, received an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from the University in 2001 and in 2005, received an honorary Doctor of Letters from Glasgow Caledonian University, all for services to the Arts in Scotland. She was awarded a CBE in the 2008 New Year Honours for services to the Creative Industries.
