On May 19, 2008, the United States Democratic Party made available to the public McCainPedia, a new website dedicated to gathering information about the presumptive Republican candidate for the U.S. presidency, Senator John McCain. Controversy

The website uses the same engine as Wikipedia, but does not allow members of the general public to edit pages or otherwise contribute. While not unusual for special-purpose wikis, the move was criticized due to the highly contested nature of the race.
