Tommy Troelsen (born 10 July 1940) is a former Danish footballer and television host

Profile

Tommy Troelsen played 16 matches for the Danish national team. In one of the famous matches - the 5-0 win against Norway in 1958 - Tommy scored a hattrick. After his footballing career he was a popular television host at Danmarks Radio and DK4.

Before becoming a TV legend in Denmark, Tommy was an active footballer in Vejle Boldklub in the 1960's. He played 257 matches and scored 130 goals.

Tommy was known for his technical flair, which gave him the nickname Tommy Troldmand (Tommy the Wizard). In 1958 he was a major profile when Vejle Boldklub won The Double. The year after this VB celebrated another Danish Cup triumph. Tommy scored the 1-0 goal in the win against rivals AGF.

Tommy is the youngest player ever to have participated in a Danish Cup final. He was only 17 years old, when he played his first final against KB in 1958. He was also one of the youngest players in the legendary Danish team, which sensationally won silver medals at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960.

Injured for thirteen years

Tommy was injured very early in his career and the doctors advised him to undergo surgery as quick as possible. But it took thirteen years before Tommy went to the hospital. Throughout his entire career Tommy played with a knee band. There are no pictures of him without the knee band. But despite this he scored many of his greatest goals from long range.
