Ceel Waaq

Ceel Waaq or Ceelwaaq or El Wak in English (somali: Ceel Waaq) is a town in Gedo region of Somalia. Ceel Waaq is the seat of one of Gedo region's seven districts.

The town of El Wak is situated near the border of Somalia and Kenya. The district of El Wak is bordered by Bardera and Garbahaarreey districts on the east, and North Eastern District of Kenya on the west.

In Af Soomaali language, the word Ceel means well. Many cities and towns in Somalia have that word in front of it indicating the importance of water wells for mostly pastoral populations of Somalia. The name El Wak is derived from a water-well which was used by area herders and it's still utilized to this date.
