Julie Klausner

Julie Klausner is a New York City based comedian and writer whose credits include articles for the "New York Times" and "Salon" as well as television writing for "The Big Gay Sketch Show" and Robert Smigel's "TV Funhouse" on "Saturday Night Live".

Klausner holds an MFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts and a BA from New York University. In addition to writing she has appeared as an on-air personality on various VH1 clip shows such as "Best Week Ever" and bit parts on "Saturday Night Live" and "Late Night With Conan O'Brien". She has amassed a cult following by producing a variety of internet based series and sketches, notably as one-half of "Julie and Jackie" (with comedy partner Jackie Clarke). These include "Welcome to Our House", a pastiche of the lifestyle video "Welcome to My Home" by actress Brenda Dickson, and "Cat News"; the latter was featured in "Entertainment Weekly" and ultimately licensed to the Fuse Network.

With Clarke, Klausner performs a monthly show called "Obsessed" at the "Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater" in New York, and with co-star and co-creator Rachel Shukert, she appears in the live monthly soap opera, "Wasp Cove" at Comix. She co-wrote and appeared in the show "Free to be Friends", a pastiche of 1970's children's television programs like The Magic Garden and Free To Be... You and Me, which ran at the UCB Theater before it became a selection of the New York International Fringe Festival. She has a comic book series called "Animal Party". Her song "Center of Attention", written as a spoof of Broadway musical tunes, was used in a television commercial for Comcast.

In 2008 Klausner struck a deal to write a memoir, entitled "I Don't Care About Your Band", for Gotham Books. [http://www.mediabistro.com/galleycat/behind_the_deal/as_the_curtain_rises_julie_klausner_sells_memoir__85069.asp?#email 1]
