The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra is one of the most respected community orchestra groups in the New York City metropolitan area.

The players are a mix of amateur, semi-professional, and professional musicians who play concerts throughout the year at the Church of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The BSO's Artistic Director is Nicholas Armstrong.

Armstrong subsequently studied conducting at the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello in Venice, where he was also a member of the Teatro La Fenice orchestra. He has worked with Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta, Norman Del Mar, Nino Rota, and Otto Werner Mueller.

Concert Master Kelly Howard has studied with Charles Joseph, Joseph Gingold and Gerald Beal. She holds degrees in Violin Performance and Music Education and has received training in Suzuki Pedagogy. Ms. Howard has performed with the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, West Chester Symphony, and Nepenthe String Quartet to name a few.

The BSYO will perform throughout the year, both on its own and with the BSO.

Performances

During the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra's 36th season, the orchestra will perform works including: Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G, Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien, and contemporary composer Kevin Beavers's Roscoe: A Concerto for Violin and Narrator.
