The Remington Model 770 is a no-frills, magazine-fed, bolt-action rifle, based upon the earlier Remington Model 710. The Remington Model 770 is a lower-cost alternative to the popular Remington 700, having a slightly shorter barrel. The Remington Model 770 is manufactured in several different calibers,including .243 Winchester, .270 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington, 7 mm Remington Magnum, 30-06 Springfield, .308 Winchester, and .300 Winchester Magnum.

History

The Remington Model 770 began production after Remington chose to rename the Model 710, and modify it slightly to improve its overall performance.

Current Production

The Remington Model 770 is produced with the economy or youth shooter in mind, with current production rifles including a pre-mounted, boresighted 3-9x40mm scope, while costing less than many production rifles that are sold as the rifle only, with no scope. As of May 2008, the Remington Model 770 MSRP is $452-$532 US.

Performance

The Remington 770, despite its lower cost, does not give much to its more successful, popular cousin, the 700, with accuracy being close to the Remington 700, at least over shorter distances. The shorter barrel lowers muzzle velocity slightly, contributing to more bullet drop over longer ranges, making the 770 more suited for shooting inside 500 yards.
