"Postcode Challenge" is a Scottish television game show presented by Carol Smillie, and produced by SMG Productions for broadcast on STV. It is broadcast on Monday nights at 8pm, when the rest of the ITV network shows "Tonight", which is broadcast on STV, Tuesday nights at 10.40pm.

Format

Each team is made up of six individuals from the same postcode, with one the designated "Team Captain". Whilst the Team Captain interacts with the presenter, the five participating "neighbours" lend support and answer questions by way of an electronic keypad.

There are 3 rounds in Postcode Challenge in total, with two knock-out rounds before the big cash final. In round one, two teams will go out. In round three, the two remaining teams go head to head, with the Team Captains taking each other on to see which will go through to the final round. But the "neighbours" play an important part too, as the size of the final cash prize depends on the answers they give in round three.

At the end of the show, one lucky team has the chance to win up to £25,000 in cash in the Cash Ladder final. Half the money goes to the Team Captain, and the rest of it is divided equally between the other five team members.

et

Despite being produced and broadcast by STV, Postcode Challenge is recorded at BBC Scotland's studios in Pacific Quay, next door to STV's headquarters.

ponsor

The show is sponsored by "The People's Postcode Lottery", a new lottery that was set-up in Scotland in 2007. To enter, you sign up for tickets, usually paid for by direct debit. Each week a draw is made and if your postcode and other numbers match the winning code, cash or other prizes are given out. One example of another prize is a new Mini, often presented by the 'Street Presenter' Angus Purden.
