"J'ai demandé à la lune" ("I asked the moon" in English) is the most popular song from the 2002 album "Paradize" which made Indochine able to reconnect with the media who had abandoned the band a decade earlier. Written by Mickaël Furnon, the singer of Mickey 3D, it was released as the second single from this album on March 2002 and very quickly became a national success with more than a million copies sold. The album was so successful a few months later.

Background and music video

While the album's recording, Nicola Sirkis, the singer of Indochine, had proposed to Pauline, the daughter of his friend Rudy Léonet, to do the background vocals.

The music video shows Sarkis walking forward, with a baby, then a young child in his arms, then Pauline appears and sings as a duet with Sarkis.

Chart performances

The song was charted on the French SNEP Singles Chart, and debuted at #14 on April 13, 2002. It went to the top ten three weeks later and reached #1 for one week on July 20. It first stabilized in the low positions, but managed to enter the top ten in its 12th week and there it stayed for 17 consecutive weeks, peaking at #1 for five weeks. In 2004, the song was covered by Mickey 3D on the live album "Live à Saint-Étienne".

There is also a longer version, which was available on a CD sold in December 2002 for the benefit of the association Médecins Sans Frontières.

The song is also covered by Vox Angeli, a choir composed of children, and features as the first track on the 2008 album of the same name.
