Background

Stitt specializes in negotiation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). His interest in negotiation began while attending Harvard Law School in 1991, where he was inspired by Roger Fisher and later invited back to Harvard as Professor Fisher’s teaching assistant in 1994 and 1995. This interest in negotiation led to his forming the Stitt Feld Handy Group, an ADR training firm, in 1994. The Stitt Feld Handy Group trainers have taught courses to over 20,000 people throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. Allan Stitt has designed customized courses for public and private organizations and designed ADR systems for government and associations around the world.

He has been a member of the Local Mediation Committee – Toronto since 1998 and is a sought-after mediator and arbitrator in Canada, North America and UK. He is both a Chartered Mediator (C.Med.) and a Chartered Arbitrator (C.Arb.). He has mediated two-party and multi-party disputes in numerous contexts, including commercial, employment, corporate governance, workplace, banking, personal injury, sports, and breach of contract.

After earning his B.Comm at the University of Toronto, he earned his LL.B. at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law and his J.D. at the University of Detroit Law School, graduating first in his class in both law schools. He then earned his LL.M. degree at Harvard Law School.

At one time, he wanted to be a tennis instructor. His passion for the game and sports has led to a large collection of sports memorabilia and sports contracts. Some of his collection of hockey artifacts were recently donated to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada.
