Angle Light

Angle Light was a thoroughbred racehorse owned by Penny Tweedy and a stablemate of Kentucky Derby winner Secretariat. Angle Light remains best known for winning the 1973 Wood Memorial Stakes race at Aqueduct Racetrack. Secretariat, the reigning two year-old champion and early favorite to win that May's Kentucky Derby, entered the race undefeated in every start since his first race, and as a better than even money first choice. However, unknown to most race fans, Secretariat had contracted a minor illness in the weeks before the Wood, and thus was not at peak efficiency for the race. Angle Light, a true speed horse who never won a race without an early lead, ran wire-to-wire under Jacinto Vasquez, with Secretariat finishing third.
