summary_text = The leukotrienes constitute a group of arachidonic acid-derived compounds with biologic activities suggesting important roles in inflammation and immediate hypersensitivity. These compounds are catabolized, in part, by lipoxygenases. Epidermis-type lipoxygenases, a distinct subclass within the multigene family of mammalian lipoxygenases, are novel isoenzymes isolated from human and mouse skin including human ALOX15B (MIM 603697), human and mouse ALOX12B (MIM 603741), mouse 8S-LOX, and mouse e-LOX-3.
