Mike Katz (musician)

Mike Katz is an American musician best known for his roles in the Scottish Celtic-Folk outfit Battlefield Band. Katz's chief instrument is the Highland pipes, a form of bagpipe, of which he plays extensively in Battlefield band thus contributing to their quite unique style of combining bagpipes with other instruments. Katz is a multi-instrumentalist; despite being an accomplished highland piper, Katz also plays Scottish smallpipes, whistles, bass guitar and 'has also been seen secretly plucking at a guitar' [http://www.templerecords.co.uk/newwebsite/artists/artist.php?PHPSESSID=5c8a56dfc8c09211e624f4e59638a91d&artistID=7]

Katz is originally from Los Angeles but moved to Scotland to study at Edinburgh University; after his degree he decided to live indefinitely in Scotland. Katz has been playing the pipes since the age of 10 and thus it seems evident that Scots folk music must have encouraged him to remain in Scotland. Katz has played in many Folk outfits before joining Battlefield Band in 1997.
