Sähkötalo

Sähkötalo

Sähkötalo (lit. "Electricity Building") is the name of the building located in downtown Helsinki, in Kamppi, that serves as the headquarters of Helsinki Energy. The building was designed by Alvar Aalto. Construction on the building started in March, 1970, and was ready to be moved in on January 22, 1973 [cite web |url= http://www.helsinginenergia.fi/media/arkisto/sahkotalo.html |title= SÄHKÖTALO 30 VUOTTA 22.1.2003 (30 years of Sähkötalo January 22, 2003) |accessdate=2008-03-24 |format= |work= |language= Finnish] . Since October 2007, the bottom floors of the building have been home to stores accessible from Kamppi Center by an underground pedestrian tunnel running underneath Fredrikinkatu. The windowframes of the building are lined with neon lights that slowly change color throughout the night.
