The Rainbow Tulip

The Rainbow Tulip

((citations))The Rainbow Tulip (26 pages)

This historical fiction children's picture book is based on the author's mother's own experiences growing up as an immigrant child in El Paso, Texas. The main character, Estelita struggles with being comfortable with her Hispanic heritage yet fitting in with the children from main-stream culture at her school. Estelita is bilingual while her parents speak only Spanish. Estelita's thoughts and feelings are in the forefront of this story as she finds comfort with who she is. Artfully created illustrations along with accurate depictions of the Hispanic culture make this a great multicultural book for young children.
