Todays marescialli are a series of ranks of Italian armed forces or law enforcment agencies.

Warrant Officers

Nowadays, the rank of Marshal is classified as "subofficial" and is only the higher rank of non-commissioned officers in Italian Armed Forces, higher than the rank of Sergeant but lower than ensign/second lieutenant: there are from three to five positions inside the rank, according to the different branches of armed forces. The rank is achieved through merit. The marshal is an intermediate rank of the Armed Forces with which, currently, that NCO' with formation and technical competence adapted are identified in order to carry out specialised executive roles, and to command smaller and technically complex units.

In the Italian army the marshal is a role pertaining to the category of non-commissioned officers. * marshal
* ordinary marshal
* chief marshal
* first marshal (until 2001 adjutant marshal)
* first lieutenant marshal (qualification instituted in 2001 [1] ).

In the Italian navy the role of marshals is covered from the degrees and the qualifications of:

* third class chief
* second class chief
* first class chief
* "chosen" first class chief(degree instituted in 2001 [1] )
* first lieutenant marshal (qualification instituted in 2001 [1] ).

In the Italian Air Force the role marshals is covered from the degrees and the qualifications of:

* third class marshal
* second class marshal
* first class marshal
* first marshal (until 2001 [1] adjuvant marshal)
* first lieutenant marshal (qualification instituted in 2001 [1] ).

The Carabinieri and in the Finance Guards, the marshals are called inspectors and are distinguished from that supervisors, once part of the category of the non-commissioned officers, where the degrees of the first marshal and first lieutenant marshal and adjutant marshal (with the qualification of official substitute of public safety, for the single police officers) and Lieutenant adjutant marshal. The qualification of lieutenant is not meaningfully a rank, is attributed from 2001.
