Tomáš Eduard Šilinger

Tomáš Eduard Šilinger (1866-1913) was a Moravian politician and journalist.

He was a member of Augustinian Order of Brno.He was chief editor of the Czech Catholic Daily Hlas "(Voice in English)" in 1896.Šilinger Place (Šilingrovo náměstí) in Brno was named after him.

Biography

Šilinger was born on December 16, 1866 at Tučín in Přerov District.In present day Tučín is in Czech Republic, and at the time it was part of Austro-Hungarian Empire.His birth name was Eduard.

After graduating, he joined St Thomas's Abbey, an Augustinian monastery located in old Brno.In monastery he was named Tomáš.He was promoted to a priest in July 26, 1891.

Quickly he became very famous preacher.He contributed to catholic weekly newspaper Hlas.In year 1896, he became chief editor of newspaper and turned it into daily.

He was elected to Vienna imperial council in year 1901.In 1906, he became national and later imperial representative in Vienna.

Hi died at June 17, 1913, at age of 47 in spa town Luhačovice.
